Itinerary for Biblical Israel and Oberammergau
June 15-25, 2022 (eleven days)
Day 1 – Wednesday June 15: Depart O'Hare or other home airports Tour members will meet for our flight to Israel. After boarding our international flight, dinner will be served aloft. Then it’s time to relax,
enjoy the on-board entertainment and get some sleep as we head for Israel and the adventure of a lifetime. The Bible will be our guidebook!
Day 2 – Thursday June 16: Arrive Tel Aviv at Ben Gurion International
We proceed together through airport customs and security to meet our agent who assists us to our luggage carousel and then our motor coach. We greet our Israeli guide and driver and travel the ancient Via Maris highway to Tiberias where we enjoy dinner and overnight. Our hotel is beside the Sea of Galilee.
Day 3 - Friday June 17: Galilee, Capernaum, Mount of Beatitudes, Nazareth, Boat Ride on the Sea of Galilee, Jordan River
Get up a little early today or tomorrow to watch the sunrise on the Sea of Galilee from our hotel. Nothing like it! Today we will see Biblical sites along the shore of the Sea of Galilee including Capernam, the center of most of His earthly ministry. We arrive at the Mount of Beatitudes and then Tagbha, where Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him. We board a wooden boat and set sail on the Sea of Galilee. When we arrive at the Jordan River, baptism is an available option.
Day 4 - Saturday June 18: Golan Heights, Caesarea Philippi, Tel Dan, Gideon Springs, Beit Shean, Galilee
After breakfast we travel north to the Golan Heights through the beautiful Hula Valley to Caesarea Philippi where Peter made the good confession, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." We take a short hike to Tel Dan to see the oldest city gate in the world. We then head to Gideon Springs and Beit Shean - a well-preserved Roman city of "The Decapolis."
Day 5 - Sunday June 19: Tiberias, Cana, Nazareth, Megiddo, Caesarea Maritima, Jerusalem.
We begin a full Lord's Day including meeting local Believers who are serving the Lord in Galilee. We stop at Cana, Nazareth, Megiddo (Armageddon), Caesarea-by-the-Sea. Then we make our journey "up to Jerusalem" in time for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 - Monday June 20: Mount of Olives, Temple Mount, Via Dolorosa, Bethlehem, Shepherd's Fields
A drive to the Mount of Olives takes us to a breathtaking panorama of the Holy City. We follow the Palm Sunday Road down to the Garden of Gethsemane with its ancient olive trees, and visit the Church of Agony, marking the prayer of Jesus in the Garden. We enter the Temple Mount area to the Western Wall where the Dome of the Rock stands. It is believed to be the place where Isaac was offered to God by Abraham, and later where the Temple Holy of Holies stood. We visit the Pools of Bethesda. Our bus takes us into Bethlehem, past Rachel's tomb to the Church of the Nativity and then to Shepherds Fields. Following dinner at our hotel, we will visit the amazing Western Wall Tunnels.
Day 7 - Tuesday June 21: Qumran, Ein Gedi, Masada, Jericho, Dead Sea, Jerusalem
This morning we descend by bus some 3700 feet in elevation from Jerusalem to the Dead Sea and the Wilderness of Judea. We stop at Qumran, home of the Essenes who penned the Dead Sea Scrolls. Following the Dead Sea on south, we stop at Ein Gedi oasis, where David hid from King Saul. We have opportunity to step into or float in the Dead Sea - an unforgettable experience at the lowest surface spot on earth! Then we ascend Masada by cable car to the fortress built by King Herod. We continue into Jericho where "the walls came tumbling' down."
Day 8 - Wednesday June 22: Yad Vashem, Israel Museum, Garden Tomb
We drive to Ein Karem village, birthplace of John the Baptist, then to Yad Vashem and the Holocaust Memorial. From there we go to the Israel Museum, Model of Biblical Jerusalem and Shrine of the Book Museum where the Dead Sea Scrolls are displayed. We conclude our Israel touring at the Garden Tomb, with a special communion service. Overnight is our last night in Jerusalem.
Day 9 - Thursday June 23: Tel Aviv to Munich
After breakfast at our hotel we drive to Ben Gurion airport for our non-stop flight to Munich. We meet our local guide who welcomes us to Germany. We enjoy an orientation tour of Munich, capital of Bavaria, then have dinner and overnight nearby.
Day 10 - Friday June 24: Oberammergau Passion Play
The drive from Munich takes us south toward the snow-capped Bavarian Alps. Oberammergau is known for it's incomparable Passion Play (presented every ten years for nearly four centuries) by the villagers. The 5,000-seat theater, largest open-air theater in the world is covered, and is the venue for this spectacular presentation. It portrays what actually happened in the sites we've just visited! The hamlet is also known for it's woodcarving craftsmanship and quaint shops. The Passion Play performance begins in early afternoon. There is a break where our dinner at a local restaurant is waiting for us. We stroll around the village then return to the theater for the second part of the play. Then we stay overnight.
Day 11 - Saturday June 25: Munich airport, Home to the USA
Transfer by motor coach to Franz Josef Strauss International Airport (second busiest airport in Germany) for our flight home. We arrive the same day, at the close of an unforgettable trip. We bring wonderful memories of Old and New Testament scenes, a renewal of our faith, and a greater understanding of the life of our Lord. The Bible events will now will be even more vivid and powerful to each of us.
